The New Wave Of Religious Fascism
Do you want a minority group of religious zealots telling you what you can and cannot do? Well that's exactly what's happening. The religious right, with their condemning oratory, has declared war on all those they don't agree with. Since when can you force someone to hold your views? (besides the media.) Through under-handed tactics and overboard, in-your-face, terrorist attacks (abortion clinic murders) they have scared the power-mongers in Washington into following their dogmatic agenda. Why are we even considering prayer in school or the teaching of creationism? They have their churches and Sunday schools, so why should they be able to invade the sanctuary public school secularization provides? Why should they be able to penetrate every aspect of social existence just because they believe they are right? Conviction and tenacity aren't the only measures of what is right.
Countless objections to almost every aspect of human life have been brought up by the religious right. Who are they to tell us how to live! Is banning everything and everyone really the solution? According to our forefathers there should be a wide scope of discourse so everyone can make up their own minds about the issues. Yet the religious right only wants their views in the spotlight and actively suppresses views that contradict their own (like rational thought.) How can we have a democracy if we are only given one choice, especially if that choice is religiously affiliated? We need to take a stand against the growing political trend of narrowing our options and giving us less and less choice.
Even now secularization is not complete. Every single president since our country's inception has been a member of a religion (and if they weren't they certainly didn't tell the public for fear of retaliation.) All our currency says "In god we trust" (the lower case is on purpose.) Do we all put our trust blindly in a higher power? I don't think so. In reality our country is still heavily under the yoke of religious values. Conservatism and intolerance abound in our institutions of power. Scare tactics and hate-breeding have taken over, leaving those who don't actively badger (the majority of America) in the dust.
The time to fight the rising tide of modern day Nazis is now. We can't let a vocal minority set policies and laws for the rest of us. Jerusalem is no longer the goal of this modern day crusade; they've got their eyes on a bigger prize: Washington DC. Hopefully the citizens of this nation will see the horrors this new wave of fascism will bring and do something about it. Fanaticism and zealous behavior have no place in this country, especially in the government. And remember we are not "One nation under god." We are one nation under the dictatorship of the oligarchy, fed consumer products and mind-numbing diversions to keep us sedated and complacent.
